Bills Sponsored:

Robert Aderholt in his own words:

‍ ‍Robert Aderholt’s website has a 2 page list of the issues he cares about, so I’ll just list the top 5: economy, education, energy, faith and religious freedom, and gun rights. He states under the faith and religious freedom section “The United States Constitution grants all Americans freedom of religion, not freedom from religion… we go to great lengths to ensure that the church doesn’t intrude upon the government, we fail to stop the government from intruding upon the church”. Robert, what the hell does that mean? How is the government infringing upon the church? I’d love to hear an example. Furthermore, non-religious people prefer to refer to it as freedom from religion because a major tenant of most religions seems to be recruitment and imposing personal religious values on everyone else via legislation. Freedom from religion is just a way to say freedom of religion while being inclusive towards people who don’t have a religion at all and would prefer to keep it that way.

Robert Aderholt in the bills he’s sponsored:

This guy sponsored a bill to tell the U.S. Postal Service that they can’t charge him extra for delivering newspapers or magazines if they aren’t going to deliver it on time. That’s real petty for someone who’s only sponsored 9 bills over the course of 2 years. That bill, and his effort to make English the official language of the U.S.A. This movement to make English the official language stems from when people who don’t like Spanish-speakers used to say “you’re in America, speak English!” and left-wingers would respond “Actually America doesn’t have an official language”. Now right-wingers are changing the law to win that argument. Here’s the thing: after a certain age, it’s hard to learn a new language. I get why Robert wouldn’t want to have to learn Spanish. I bet a lot of Spanish speakers don’t want to have to learn English. I also don’t think a nation that’s been built on the backs of immigrants and slaves should be picking a single language to define itself with.

His potential successor:

Robert Aderholt is currently running against Amanda Pusczek. Amanda is endorsed by Progressive Voters Network, BAC, For the Future Victory Fund, Patients Over Profits, Citizens’ Impeachment, Moms Demand Action, Unrig Washington, Black Political Caucus of Alabama, and Alabama AFL-CIO. She doesn’t have a section on her website that lists the issues she cares about, instead she has a page called “Policy Plans”. She has plans for a wide variety of change to help our state and our nation, but in my opinion the intro to the page says it all.

“We are building a future where our fundamental freedoms are fiercely safeguarded, our economy rewards honest labor instead of corporate monopolies, our neighborhoods are backed by safe and functional public infrastructure, and equal justice under the law is a concrete reality for every single neighbor - not a luxury reserved for the wealthy and well-connected.”
