It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote, with the punishment for doing so ranging from up to 5 years in federal prison to deportation. There is currently an exception for individuals who reasonably believed themselves to be citizens at the time of voting. This bill would remove that exception, and just immediately deport anyone who tries to vote while not being a citizen, even if it was by mistake.
Dale Strong in his own words:
Dale Strong describes the Christian values he learned as working hard and helping your neighbors, and then promptly vows to fight the “socialist agenda”. Most left leaning-individuals in America are Social Democrats, which would keep a capitalist economy but use government regulation and welfare programs to promote economic equality. Sounds like… helping your neighbors? He also blathers on and on about how much he loves and supports Donald Trump. I feel like supporting a suspected pedophile and adjudicated rapist should go against Christian values, but apparently not with this guy. He also describes on his website how, according to him, illegal immigrants “swamp our schools, overcrowd our prisons, take advantage of our healthcare, and stretch our law enforcement thin”. Does Dale Strong think immigrant children don’t deserve an education? What if that child was born in the United States, do they still not deserve an education because their parents are immigrants? In regards to overcrowding our prisons, the American Immigration Council has already debunked the concept of a higher immigrant population correlating to higher crime rates. Not only does correlation not equate to causation, in this argument there isn’t even a correlation. This also applies to immigrants allegedly stretching our law enforcement thin. Maybe our law enforcement shouldn’t focus so much on pulling people over solely because they’re brown? That sounds like a self-inflicted issue to me. Finally, he claims illegal immigrants “take advantage of our healthcare”. Dale: what healthcare are you talking about? Are you criminally insane? The only “free healthcare” that immigrants and even many Americans are able to access is visits to the Emergency Room, provided not treating them would result in their death. Meanwhile, according to International Citizens Insurance, Mexico has become the world’s second most popular destination for medical tourism because even its private care is affordable, and can cost 50-70% less than the same treatment in the U.S.. Access to and quality of public healthcare varies across the country, but nevertheless public healthcare is a constitutional right there. If rich Americans want healthcare for cheaper, they fly to Mexico. Not only is this statement stemming from a distaste to non-white people (considering he doesn’t even want them to go to the same school as white children), it is factually incorrect, based on a load of crap that the right wing has entirely made up. Reading this guy’s legislation, I didn’t care for him much, but after reading that statement from his website I find him disgusting and horrible.
Dale Strong in the bills he’s sponsored:
This guy has sponsored a number of bills intended to protect American agriculture from being bought by foreign governments, which is an issue that seems to be fueled by AcreTrader, a farmland investment company that was, at its founding, largely funded by… J.D. Vance. It’s so interesting that almost all of the few good and helpful bills sponsored by Republicans would be cleaning up the Trump administration’s messes.
One bill of his that I find to be noteworthy is H.R.707, which would be called the “Deport Illegal Voters Act of 2025”. It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote with deportation as a potential punishment for doing so. According to the Heritage Foundation’s election fraud database, there have only been 99 cases of election fraud by an illegal immigrant between the years 2000 - 2024, only 71 of which resulted in criminal conviction. Note that the Heritage Foundation is a right-wing policy research institute and the authors of “Project 2025”, so there’s no reason for them to leave any cases out. According to a study by the Brennan Center for Justice, in 2016 only .0001% of the 23.5 million votes from 42 jurisdictions were even suspected of noncitizen voting. 40 of these jurisdictions reported no known incidents. All that to say, non-citizen voting does happen, but not enough to make it an issue that requires the ridiculous amount of legislation that is being proposed. Dale Strong’s bill H.R.707 would reclassify illegal voting as an aggravated felony, which would always be grounds for deportation, even if the person voting reasonable believed themselves to be a citizen at the time of voting.
His potential successor:
Dale Strong is currently running against Andrew Sneed. Andrew Sneed begins his bio by humanizing himself as a son, brother, devoted husband, and father. He then describes his work career as a master plumber and gas fitter, and founder and operator of a local small business. He started at $10/hour working as a plumber’s helper, working his way up to the role of entrepreneur. He includes statements on his website regarding his main issues, which are : healthcare, affordability, labor, immigration (promoting diversity as a strength), education/opportunity, environment, energy, fixing the house, social security, and data centers (protecting citizens’ privacy and rights).
